Injured Should I Still Exercise

"Your determination and commitment to transform your body is stronger than the natural disability or any pain."
- Prabal Arora

Aren't there millions of excuses for people not to exercise? Don't these come up with disguised as reasons. It's too hot, too cold. I'm tired; I'm too busy. I have got an injury. I can't exercise because of this reason or that.

Are these only excuses or real reasons?

The question here is regardless of what the excuses are, would you still brush your teeth? Irrespective of whether it's hot or cold, whether it's raining or windy, whether you are busy, whether you have got a sore foot or a headache, would you still brush your teeth? We know if you don't brush your teeth, it's not just that your teeth would rot away as your body does if it doesn't move, but you don't feel good when you don't brush your teeth. Don't you feel a bit fluffy, furry, dirty and nasty breath and it's not very nice?

"Winners don't give any excuses of not doing it. You wanna do it or don't."

Even if you feel a little bit grotty and brush your teeth, you always feel better. Well, isn't exercise is exactly the same?  Do you ever feel worse after you exercise? Don't you always feel better? However, one of the big reasons people will use for not exercising, or the quickest reason they will stop exercising, is that they have an injury.

I have got a sore foot. I have a sore shoulder, I have an aching knee, and I have a sore back. When we have that going on, we will go to the doctor or the physio or the chiropractor, etc. They will say, "Yes, you should have a rest." Does it mean to have a rest altogether, don't do anything, or was it just rest the shoulder, relax the knee, rest the back?

Do we still need to live our lives even though we have a sore throat, joint or sore shoulder?

Now here is the question. God forbid you end up lying in a hospital bed for a week, and you can't move what happens to your body? We waste away. It only takes a short time of doing nothing for your body to waste muscles away. And yet when you are advised not to move because you have got a sore shoulder or an injured knee, we then say, "Ok, my whole body has to stop moving." Well, is that true? Could you find a way to keep your body from deteriorating, from wasting away because you are doing nothing? Be aware that when you do nothing, your muscles of the body waste away very quickly.

"Motivation is you do something to somebody. Inspiration is you do for yourself."

So if you have got a sore knee, have you got another leg, two other arms and a whole body? Have you got another arm, an entire body, and two legs if you have got a sore shoulder? If you have a broken foot, have you got another leg, two arms and a full body? Of course, the answer is yes. Now you need to make a decision about what you want to do with your body.

Could there be a way to exercise still?

Could you find a way to keep your body moving even if you had no legs, for instance? And obviously, the answer is yes, because plenty of people, Paralympian, compete in downhill skiing and play basketball and run and don't have any legs. They just have to use their arms. So, now can we use that as an excuse not to move when your body can still move even if it's got broken parts?

Don't you have to decide now that if you can accept the consequences of not moving because one part of your body needs to have a rest as it's injured or it needs to recover?

Don't you need to think very carefully about it instead of coming up with an excuse or a reason for not exercising? Is it possible to come up with how can I exercise? Isn't it 'how can I' versus 'I can't'? So I can't use this leg. What could I do with my other leg? Could I still swim? Could I still ride a bike with one leg? Could I still punch on the boxing kit with my upper body?

Some people have been exercising all of their lives every single day. How can they exercise every day? Isn't it the same thing we discussed above? Do you brush your teeth every day regardless of what's going on in your life? Don't you always shower every day? Aren't these things keeping our body in excellent condition?

Isn't exercise also is one of those things? For instance, imagine you had a sore knee and a sore elbow, could you use one arm and one leg? Is it possible to exercise on the cross trainer where you push with one leg and push with the other arm? If you have a sore lower body, could you do boxing as an exercise because you can still punch with your upper body? Why am I asking these questions? Because there are people who have done all these mentioned above and so many are doing it.

"You didn't lose, because you did not try. Come out of your comfort zone, and you will realise that you could bloody do it."

So, isn't it worth for you to accept the consequences of not moving and be excited about the outcome of keeping your body moving, fit and strong by exercising? Apart from the fact that you feel fantastic every single day, please be aware that you'll also keep your body strong for the rest of your life so you won't get sick or weak or depressed. Won't you always feel good about yourself every single day?

"When the pain of not looking fit is too intense to bear, you will do anything to get started."
